To our readers,
I am honored and thrilled to be the new editor-in-chief of The BU COMmunicator. This academic year, The COMmunicator is celebrating 10 years of sharing COM-related content with the BU community, making this COM student all the more excited to join a team with such longstanding success. I would like to take a moment to share more information about our publication and our team’s plans as the semester progresses.
For those of you who are not familiar with The BU COMmunicator, we are a student-run publication focusing on the people and events in the Department of Mass Communication, Public Relations and Advertising at Boston University’s College of Communication. Our goal is to share exciting COM happenings with students, staff, alumni, prospective students and more. We are committed to engaging with our readers, and we would love for you to reach out directly to our team and through our social media platforms.
We are looking forward to continuing our coverage of various exciting events and interesting people in the BU community, and this would not be possible without the robust, talented team that The BU COMmunicator has on board this semester. We are currently working on a multimedia series that highlights the past editors of The BU COMmunicator, sharing where they are now and what they gained from their time at BU and working for our site. We are also running a 10th anniversary logo contest until Oct. 18, which encourages any BU student to create an original COMmunicator logo. One lucky winner will receive a $100 Amazon gift card.
To give more information on my background, I am a first-year journalism graduate student, so my studies technically fall outside of the subject matter of The BU COMmunicator. That being said, I believe that my journalistic studies and previous experience as the editor-in-chief of my undergraduate university’s paper have helped me to succeed in this position, since I am accustomed to running a publication that produces compelling, thought-out work continuously and efficiently. Above all, I am excited to continue learning more about mass communication, advertising and public relations and all the amazing work that these branches of COM do through my work with The BU COMmunicator.
As this semester continues and our course loads become ever more demanding, I know that this team of writers, editors, bloggers and photographers will rise to the challenge and ensure our continued success. To the COMmunicator team, past and present, a sincere happy anniversary, here’s to 10 more years of communicating!
